Practice Educator programme
Program Overview Frontline Practice Educator (FPE) programme supports experienced social workers to develop skills to supervise and assess learners in practice, aligned with Practice Educator Professional Standards (PEPS 1 and 2). The fully online programme is designed to fit alongside your current role, with all learning directly linked to your work with children. Key Components * Six online teaching days covering supervision, assessment and core principles of practice education. * Around 60 hours of core learning (total 70 hours including optional CPD and coaching). * Portfolio-based assessment. * Optional group coaching and CPD opportunities. Eligibility and Requirements * Registered and experienced social worker demonstrating profession values (SWE 2019, BASW 2021). * Minimum of two years post‐qualifying experience at programme start. * Working in a practice setting where you will supervise or assess a learner during the programme. * Have a practice assessor in place for the duration of the programme – must be a registered social worker qualified to PEPS 2. Eligible Learners * Social work students on first placement (70 days) * Social work students on final placement (100 days) * Newly qualified social workers completing their assessed and supported year in employment (ASYE) * Social workers undertaking best interests assessor (BIA) training * Social workers undertaking approved mental health professional (AMHP) training Program Schedule The programme runs from September 2026 to August 2027, with two start windows available: September–June or January–June. Assessment Process * Practice assessors evaluate candidacy against the Values Statements and PEPS Domains. * Practice assessors conduct direct observations. * Practice assessors write assessments to support progression. * Practice assessors verify the portfolio of evidence.
